The State Construction Industry Board, Division of Conditioned Air Contractors developed a guideline to meet the requirements of Board Rule 121-2•.03, Amended, which requires each applicant to document completion of a Heat Loss/Gain and Duct Design course. The following are the minimum course requirements: Applicants for a Restricted (Class 1) License must show that the course on ACCA Manual J, is a minimum of 8 hours; ACCA Manual D a minimum of 4 hours and an additional 4 hours of testing and/or practice of the principles in the classroom, for a minimum of 16 total hours of classroom time. Heat loss and gain should be taught using the manual method. Computer based programs will not be approved. Applicants for a Non-Restricted (Class 2) License must show the above items and an additional 8 hours of Commercial Heat Loss/Gain based on ACCA Manual N and ACCA Manual Q or the Carrier Design Manuals or an approved equal by Trane or Lennox for a total of 24 hours of classroom time.
